PURPOSE OF COURSE: The course is designed to teach self defense techniques that are easy to learn and how to apply them in a hostile environment. The lecture portion will give the student an improved understanding of laws and procedures in self defense cases. The course also teaches tactical communication, mental preparedness, understanding the role of a professional witness, understanding violent confrontations, diffusing high risk incidents, post traumatic stress disorder and its effect on survival.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION: The course is taught using methods of lecture, multimedia, cooperative/collaborative learning, labs and demonstration. Hands on skills with a movements, strikes, blocks, escapes and evasive techniques. Students should be prepared to learn and apply self defense skills in a variety of situations. This will lead to an increased competence in self defense abilities and help justify their actions should they ever be in a self defense situation.
